Norton Ghost 15 error message when booting

I thought, I'd buy an imaging software to backup some computers from time to time. I know, Norton Ghost has been a good one, so I bought Ghost 15, German edition. There's one installer that does something with running systems, which is completely unimportant for me. But the recovery CD which promised to make something they call cold images looked good. And after an initial surprise, it was.

I ran into problems when first booting the downloadable ISO image for the recovery CD in an VMWare image. Granted, this might not be very useful, but I wanted to play around a bit.

After booting into the CD's Windows operating system, I was presented with this error message:
Symantec Recovery Disk
The selected language is not fully supported and will be displayed in Symantec applications only. All other applications will be displayed in the previously-selected fully-supported language.

Thought and klicked ok which was followed by this one:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: X:\windows\shell\sreshell.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

And finally this error message:
SreShell.exe - Fehler in Anwendung
Die Ausnahme "unknown software exception" (0x40000015) ist in der Anwendung an der Stelle 0x004fb9aa aufgetreten.

Klicken Sie auf "OK", um das Programm zu beenden.

After that, the machine rebooted.

Resolution

It turned out, that my virtual machine had not enough memory: 256MB RAM is not enough. It worked when I gave it 384MB, although Windows complained that it might not work with less than 512MB RAM properly. But at least there was no crash. With 512MB RAM, Ghost worked as it should. OK, so much for backing up older machines, but in reality this limitation should not be a serious one.
